Giulio Di Sturco
(b. 1979, Roccasecca, Italy)

Giulio Di Sturco is an award-winning visual artist and photographer based in Arles, France.

Trained at the European Institute of Design in Rome, Di Sturco began his career in photojournalism, working with leading agencies such as VII, Getty Reportage, and INSTITUTE, before turning toward long-term, research-driven projects. His work now moves beyond reportage into what he defines as post-documentary photography: a practice that blurs the line between reality and speculation, using the present as raw material to imagine possible futures.

Across series such as Aerotropolis, Saltlands, Singularity, The Edge of Life, and The Forgotten Archive of the Future, Di Sturco explores how technology, climate change, and human ambition are reshaping life and landscapes. His images transform real environments—airports, laboratories, industrial sites, medical spaces—into speculative worlds that feel at once familiar and alien, making the invisible visible.

He is the recipient of numerous accolades, including three World Press Photo prizes, the Sony Photography Awards, the British Journal of Photography International Awards, the BNF Grant, and two Getty Grants. His project Aerotropolis was shortlisted for the Aesthetica Prize and nominated for the Prix Pictet.

His work has been published widely in The New York Times, National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Wired, and The Financial Times, and exhibited internationally at venues such as Paris Photo, Photo London, Photaumnales, York Art Gallery, Getxophoto, and Cortona On The Move.

In 2019, Di Sturco published his first monograph Ganga Ma (GOST), with essays by Vandana Shiva and Eimear Martin—a meditation on the ecological and cultural crisis of the Ganges that marked his shift toward slower, more speculative forms of storytelling.

Through photography, film, and multimedia installations, Giulio Di Sturco invites viewers to look at the world not just as it is, but as it might become—and as it might one day be remembered.
